Welcome!
Welcome!
ok, i'm doing a little feed with interesting lines taken from my favourite magazine LEXEAN. LEXEAN is pretty much current affairs discussion with lots of controversy, and it writes on issues which may not usually matter. (ha-ha)
from issue 15 (2008), here goes, each sentence as quoted exactly:
• ... which begs the question just how large the Russian inferiority complex must be if a country that spans 11 time zones can still feel "encircled".
• German Chancellor Angela Merkel is well-liked by world leaders, so much so that President Bush gave her an impromptu neck massage at the G8 submit in Russia in 2006 (youtube it).
• John McCain ... said, regarding religion in Vietnam prison camp, "One day I talked about the parable of when they asked Christ whether they should pay taxes and he held up a coin and said, 'Render unto Caesar' ..."
• North Korea is now nuclear-armed, Iran will be, and Russian imperial ambitions are rising. But it is not a total loss. The Bush administration has dramatically increased funding for AIDS in Africa.
• The American flag is burned in the Middle East as often as incense, and Koreans riot in Seoul at the mere mention of American beef (of all things). Russia used the Bush Doctrine to attack Georgia...
• Despite Bush's best efforts, the bill died.
• Indeed, Bush's greatest success is that he screwed things up so bad that the unthinkable now seems possible ... The next president may just be a black man with the name Hussein.
• "Unlike Kim Jong II, who says he is well but has not appeared, I thought I'd better say hello to you and apologise for not being able to join you." - Minister Mentor Lee Luan Yew, greeting participants of the Global UBS Philanthropy Forum via satellite video feed.
• "I cannot do everything all by myself. I need support. I cannot just go to Dato Seri Abdullah, catch him by the scruff of his neck and throw him out. All things that I should do will need support, especially from UMNO. But UMNO and its other leaders are useless." - Datuk Dr Mahathir Mohamad on why he did not take action after UMNO's recent electoral loss.
also from the same issue, an article, a dedication to Bush, titled "Bye Bye Bush", has a table: Bush-isms Misstatements:
1. "I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully." - Saginaw, Michigan, 29 Sep 2000
2. "I'm the commander - see, I don't need to explain - I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being president." - as quoted in Bob Woodward's Bush at War
3. "I know what I believe. I will continue to articulate what I believe and what I believe - I believe what I believe is right." - Rome, Italy, 22 Jul 2001
4. "The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him." - Washington, DC, 13 Sep 2001
5. "I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority." - Washington, DC, 13 Mar 2002
6. "The war on terror involves Saddam Hussein because of the nature of Saddam Hussein, the history of Saddam Hussein, and his willingness to terrorise himself." - Grand Rapids, Michigan, 29 Jan 2003
7. "Information is moving - you know, nightly news is one way, of course, but it's also moving through the blogosphere and through the internets." - Washington, DC, 2 May 2007
8. "And so the fact that they purchased the machine meant somebody had to make the machine. And when somebody makes a machine, it means there's jobs at the machine-making place." - Mesa, Arizona, 27 May 2008
that's all folks!
i do not draw commissions but LEXEAN is a good read! check out www.lexean.com.
i can't be any more blessed than this! i've been granted with all the offs i ever wanted, and right now it's just waiting to collect the pink card. still a month away. so can you imagine how many offs i've collected for january alone?
camp life has been all too kind, with great friends (omg i'm still wondering how come i'm the only one who mix so well with all other platoons. maybe because i smoke.) at the same time i'm sorry to my three best buddies (weisheng, weiyang and shuiqi) if they ever felt like i pangsehed them to go out with other people. but yeah we had lots of good and shitty times together; teri's standby still seems like yesterday. a lot has happened over the past two years, from the time on offshore tekong to SI to mhc. God couldn't have been any nicer to me.
And really He is. What with the iPhone, the car. Jane mentioned yesterday that he envies people like us who are born into relatively well-to-do families. makes me realise that i shouldn't take things for granted. for instance, i should take the mrt and buses more. ok i know it sounds lame but there's some seriousness to it!
of course with the closure to army life begins a new chapter. i guess now it boils down to having enough money to tide over the next six months. not just that, need to save up more (to get married also). i wonder if finding jobs will be any tougher with the economy plunging like it is now.
and on the israel-hamas conflict... it's not that i do not pity the one thousand who died in the war. but in a way, the hamas are asking for it also. don't you rmb them warning the israelis to bring it on? haha, albeit not in that exact phrase.
ok damn taking too, too long to blog. exams in three hours. omg omg omg. i don't think i can do any worse for the paper tomorrow either.
by the way i'm looking for my best friend. have you seen him? hur.
